If you have solved the problem, please tell me. Otherwise I want to share my experience. I am configuring a brand new laptop (Asus M3000NP) with the same soundcard and a centrino setup. I am running Susu 9.1 pro (a 2.6 kernel). For the first couple of days I had no problems. Then I started to play with acpi settings and enabled suspend-to-ram and suspend-to-disk. Suspend-to-disk worked but suspend-to-ram gave the wellknown "black screen after attempt to reactive". After that one bad experience I started getting exactly the same messages as you have (and I was unable to get any sound from eg. xmms). This persisted through reboots. However, in windows I could use the soundcard! Today I tried rebooting "failsafe", which passes -noacpi to the kernel. I still had problems with the soundcard - stopping and starting alsasound gave a "failed to restore previous settings". I ran alsactrl and reconfigured my soundcard, which still gave some error messages. However, upon a straight reboot, everything is back to normal in KDE! I don't know whether the problem will return (hope not) - but I suspect that it started because of the "suspend to ram" stuff which I think kind of puts everything into sleep mode. I gues a -noacpi reboot together with alsactrl may have woken the soundcard up. However, maybe I just experienced a single lucky reboot... -- Kasper Daniel Hansen, Research Assistant Department of Biostatistics, University of Copenhagen
